Story Arts Foundation is bringing to Hyderabad, the first 'World Storytelling Celebration - DAMADIKIYA 2018'. This celebration is a dream come true for me in many unexpected ways. As a storyteller who loves exchanging stories and performing them, it is a delight to bring together Kenya - Wangari Grace, Thailand - Dr. Wajuppa Tossa, Argentina - Paula Martin, France - Sabrina Arusan, and yours truly, India - Deepa Kiran to enthrall the people of Hyderabad. The Celebration is scheduled to take place from December 11th - December 15th, 2018 and the enchanting Storytellers are all geared up to deliver performance showcases and facilitate workshops on learning the techniques of Storytelling and how Storytelling can be used as a Pedagogical Tool. Inviting you to be a part of this Celebration and looking forward to see you there! 'Ann, beloved wife of ...' someone whose name's flaked off - no one left to care. How the Heart Responds follows on from Alan's first collection, What the Eye Sees. It focuses on human nature as well as nature. These 'haiku moments' are often humorous, zany, even satirical reflections on what it means to be alive. Alan's contact: [email protected]

I have some sad news for C group members: Simon Greenall passed away on 11 September after a long illness. For those members who knew Simon, I hardly need say anything more for they will grieve a well-loved colleague and will recall his many achievements and human qualities. For those who did not know him well, it is worth citing some of his achievements. He was a past-President of IATEFL and a Trustee of International House. He also sat on several British Council committees, including the ELTons committee. In recent years he also led the team which produced a highly influential course-book for China, which has sold millions of copies. Simon was not one to thrust himself into the limelight, preferring to work quietly and effectively behind the scenes. He often told me that people regarded him as ‘a safe pair of hands’ – and I would heartily concur. He will be remembered for his humanity and warmth, his essential kindness and generosity, for his conviviality and good humour, and for his deep sense of professional responsibility. He was a valued member of the C Group from the outset - and generously funded one of the C Group scholarships to IATEFL. He will be greatly missed. (For further tributes, please see the information below shared by IATEFL and the next issue of HLT Mag, which will carry a special article on his life and work.) Alan Maley Memorial Event
There will be a memorial event in London on Saturday 6 April, 2019 (the day after IATEFL ends) to celebrate Simon's life. This will be hosted by Macmillan Education. Further details will be shared in due course. Remembrance Book on WeRemember A remembrance book has been set up on WeRemember where people may leave tributes to Simon. This will later be turned into an e-book of remembrance. If you would like to contribute, please follow this link. JustGiving Campaign We are also collecting donations for the Sobell House Hospice Charity who provided such excellent end of life care. If you wish to make a personal donation you may do so here Jill and family would like to thank all those who have sent tributes and messages of support. These have been warmly received at this difficult time. outside my window the old vine rustles its leaves – grapes hollowed by wasps after the day’s heat, this feather dust of night rain – leaves put out their tongues What the Eye Sees is a beautifully-illustrated collection of haikus on the subject of nature, birds and the seasons. These ‘haiku moments’ offer us ways of seeing the world freshly minted. Available from the author direct: [email protected] The C Group members' price £7 plus postage and packing.
