I have some sad news for C group members: Simon Greenall passed away on 11 September after a long illness.
For those members who knew Simon, I hardly need say anything more for they will grieve a well-loved colleague and will recall his many achievements and human qualities.
For those who did not know him well, it is worth citing some of his achievements. He was a past-President of IATEFL and a Trustee of International House. He also sat on several British Council committees, including the ELTons committee. In recent years he also led the team which produced a highly influential course-book for China, which has sold millions of copies.
Simon was not one to thrust himself into the limelight, preferring to work quietly and effectively behind the scenes. He often told me that people regarded him as ‘a safe pair of hands’ – and I would heartily concur. He will be remembered for his humanity and warmth, his essential kindness and generosity, for his conviviality and good humour, and for his deep sense of professional responsibility.
He was a valued member of the C Group from the outset - and generously funded one of the C Group scholarships to IATEFL. He will be greatly missed.
(For further tributes, please see the information below shared by IATEFL and the next issue of HLT Mag, which will carry a special article on his life and work.)

There will be a memorial event in London on Saturday 6 April, 2019 (the day after IATEFL ends) to celebrate Simon's life. This will be hosted by Macmillan Education. Further details will be shared in due course.
Remembrance Book on WeRemember
A remembrance book has been set up on WeRemember where people may leave tributes to Simon. This will later be turned into an e-book of remembrance. If you would like to contribute, please follow this link.
